Consulting your GP
As prostate cancer can grow for several years before it shows any signs or gives rise to symptoms, a number of tests can be used to try to diagnose the disease early. These tests will include a digital rectal examination (or DRE) where your GP can feel the size, shape and texture of the prostate gland via your tail end. The feel of your prostate, combined with measurement of your prostate specific antigen level (PSA level) can indicate whether or not prostate cancer is likely.
