“Movers and Shakers” awareness event, 11th July 2025

Our Chairman and Vice-Chairman recently attended and spoke at a “Movers and Shakers” event, a keep fit and active both physically and mentally regular session hosted by the Hilltop Multicultural Centre run in conjunction with Buckinghamshire Health Trust.

They spoke predominantly to a group of ladies mainly of Caribbean origin with regard to awareness of prostate cancer and its higher incidence in men of Black and Asian origins. As our Vice-Chairman Anthony Banton will often say, to get the message of PSA testing and awareness through to predominantly Caribbean men we need to have the support of the mothers, wives and partners to ensure their men do the right thing.

They spoke about the fear that surrounds cancer in general and the reluctance that some men have in seeking help and talking to family members about their condition. The response from the audience was overwhelming with many people talking about individual PCa situations and how late diagnosis has adversely affected the families.

We hope we may have helped some families and the proof was shown some three weeks later when the CPCSG July PSA testing day conducted at the same venue had a much higher number of Black men attending than previously. See July 2025 PSA testing day article.
