This was our ninth PSA testing day, all of which have been free of charge to the men attending. From the first one in July 2022 over 1250 men have been tested and 120+ potential early prostate cancer cases have been detected.
Our ninth testing day was full on for numerous reasons: a new location; being shadowed by senior Buckinghamshire Health Trust personnel; and challenges arising from various aspects of the appointment booking system. Thankfully we dealt with each one successfully and learnt new skills and answers to questions posed, which will only help us as the CPCSG free PSA testing day evolves further during 2025 with exciting new developments. More of these at a later date in another CPCSG article.
Of the 155 men tested the results showed a considerably higher number of amber and red results than previous testing days, which we hope will lead to many more men having life-saving treatment earlier than may otherwise have been possible.
The awareness message of PCa which desperately needs to be highlighted in the Black and Asian communities has hit a new height of positivity. I am no statistical genius but based on government figures which show the South East having a population mix of approximately 10% Black, Asian and Mixed race, and with 15% of our attendees being of Black/Asian/Mixed race, it seems that we must be assisting in getting the message through in some form or fashion.
Well done and thank you to all the volunteers on the day for multi-tasking and dealing with issues at the drop of a hat. A very big thank you to our friends at Hilltop for their wonderful facilities and hospitality. The next testing day in October has the potential to be ground-breaking in so many ways – more information to follow as and when we have the details.
We have some pictures of the day……..
